KL Rahul Achieves Milestone in IPL
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 22: KL Rahul showcased his exceptional batting skills by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), surpassing renowned players like David Warner, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
This remarkable achievement occurred during the match where Delhi Capitals triumphed over his previous team, Lucknow Super Giants, by eight wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Rahul played a crucial role, guiding the Capitals to a comfortable victory.
He scored an unbeaten 57 runs, effectively dismantling Lucknow's defense against a target of 160 runs, and reached the 5000-run milestone in just 130 innings, breaking David Warner's record of 135 innings. Virat Kohli now ranks third, having reached the mark in 157 innings.
With this accomplishment, Rahul became the eighth player to join the exclusive 5000-run club in IPL history, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli (8,326), Rohit Sharma (6,786), Shikhar Dhawan (6,769), David Warner (6,565), Suresh Raina (5,528), MS Dhoni (5,377), and AB de Villiers (5,162). Currently, Rahul has amassed 5,006 runs in 139 matches, boasting an impressive average of 46.35, including 40 fifties and four centuries.
Rahul's calm demeanor was evident as he entered the game when Delhi Capitals were at 36/1 in just 3.4 overs. He quickly found the boundary with a beautiful shot off Avesh Khan and formed a solid 69-run partnership for the second wicket with Abhishek Porel.
In the 11th over, he displayed his power-hitting ability by slog-sweeping for an 86-meter six over mid-wicket. The very next over, he danced down the pitch and sent the ball soaring over the bowler's head for another six.
As he approached his half-century, he pushed the ball away for a single on the first ball of the 18th over, marking his 40th fifty in the IPL. He concluded the match in style, hitting a six over mid-wicket, securing an 8-wicket victory for the Capitals.
